Drillers Trio Named All-Stars 08/26/2008 1:03 PM ETTulsa Drillers
Three Tulsa Drillers were named to the Texas League's End of Season All-Star Team that was announced today. Outfielders Dexter Fowler and Matt Miller were joined on the team by Eric Young Jr. The elite 19-player team includes the top players from both divisions of the Texas League. The squad is determined through voting by the league's managers and media members. Fowler and Miller were outfielders on the team, while Young was named to the utility spot. Tulsa's three members matched Springfield and Midland for the most players on the team. Kila Ka'aihue of Northwest Arkansas was named the Texas League's Player of the Year, and Vince Mazzaro was chosen the Pitcher of the Year. Scott Little of Frisco was named the Manager of the Year. Fowler and Miller have been two of the league's top offensive performers this season. Miller, who was promoted to Triple A at the end of July, is a good bet to win the TL's batting title. He leads the league with a .344 average, with his closest rivals being teammates Fowler and Tony Blanco. Miller's 87 runs batted in were also near the top of the league at the time of his promotion. Fowler has missed the entire month of August because of his participation in the Olympic Games, but he still has put together an impressive season. He leads all active Drillers with a .337 batting average. Fowler has 9 homers, 61 runs batted in and 20 stolen bases. Like Miller and Fowler, Young has enjoyed a successful season despite missing an extended period of time. He did not play at all during the month of May because of a broken wrist, but is still second in the league with 46 stolen bases. For the year, Young is hitting .285 with 28 extra-base hits while playing second base and outfield.
